THE EARLY ALERT ACTION FUND
The Early Alert Action Fund (EEAF) is a non-partisan 501(c)4 social welfare organization formed to battle misinformation and toxic attacks on social media.
We are spending 100% of our time and resources on this mission between now and the day when a winner of the 2020 presidential election is officially declared – even longer if necessary.
EARLY
We detect misinformation and toxic attacks on social media, and we do it early, before it goes viral -- often, when strikes are being spread only by bots.
ALERT
We furnish early warning alerts to a SELECT universe of elected officials, public servants, organizations, groups and campaigns across the country.
ACTION
We provide mitigation advice as requested, and serve as a source for media outlets reporting on misinformation and toxic attacks that arise across a spectrum of issues, states and campaigns.
Why We Do This Work
American intelligence officials have confirmed that Russia still plans to interfere in our elections to help Trump win, while the Trump campaign itself and its well-heeled allies, PACs and dark money organizations are inundating social media with misinformation and lies. They have aimed at an endless list of subjects, targeting Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Speaker Pelosi, and Democratic Governors across the country.
They attack science, spread Coronavirus conspiracy theories, hype disproven COVID-19 treatments, smear public health officials, undermine the value of proper vaccine trials. But their efforts have increasingly focused on creating confusion and fear about balloting and election security – to undermine American democracy.
Right now, in every corner of the country, urgent work is underway to protect our elections, stop voter suppression efforts, and encourage early voting – including voting by mail. At the same time, bad actors lurk in every corner of the Internet, spreading lies and disinformation designed to confuse and frighten voters, create chaos and suppress the vote.
We can not, and will not, let this activity go unchallenged.
Today, exposing misinformation, and fighting back against those who spread it, could not be more urgent, because this is the fight to safeguard democracy and protect every American’s precious right to vote.
EEAF was founded by John Gurrola, former Communications Director at the White House Office of AIDS Policy and long-time California political consultant. John and his small team are guided by network-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, designed for exactly what confronts us today. Developed by data scientists at VineSight, Inc., EAAF is able to detect the simplest text-based toxic social media posts, while also catching the more important, sophisticated text-free attacks containing only photos, memes, or even deep fakes – the precise type preferred by right-wing and foreign disruptors.
The difference between EEAF, other media monitoring organizations, and the glut of social “listening” tools on the market, is how we catch misinformation and toxic attacks early -- before they go viral. That is the unique superpower of our VineSight tool. But we go further. By sharing the information with the very people and organizations that can do something about it, we’re sharing the superpower as well.
